On October 24, 2026, the prestigious Fairmont Royal York Hotel in Toronto hosted the Peace Ambassadors Awards Gala & Grand Ball 2026, bringing together international leaders, diplomats, filmmakers, artists, and humanitarian advocates. One of the meaningful moments of the evening was the recognition of the Ukrainian documentary “Children in the Fire,” highlighting the experiences of children affected by Russia's war against Ukraine.

An International Celebration of Peace and Global Leadership

The Peace Ambassadors Awards Gala & Grand Ball 2026, organized by the International Peace Alliance | Alliance Internationale de la Paix (IPA | AIP), took place on October 24, 2026, at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel in Toronto, Canada.

Held as the closing celebration of the International Peace Festival 2026, the Gala brought together representatives of the diplomatic community, international organizations, filmmakers, artists, humanitarian leaders, and advocates for peace from around the world.

The event celebrated individuals and initiatives whose contributions promote peace, cultural understanding, human rights, humanitarian cooperation, and international dialogue.

The evening featured prestigious award presentations, orchestral performances, cultural entertainment, and the traditional Grand Ball, highlighting the important role of arts and culture in connecting communities across borders.

Nadiya Yashan: Advancing Women's Leadership and International Peace Initiatives

Among the participants was Nadiya Yashan, Founder and President of Business Woman PRO Canada, an organization dedicated to supporting women's leadership, entrepreneurship, professional development, and international collaboration.

Nadiya Yashan is a Member of the Global Leadership Council of the International Peace Alliance and serves as Chair of Women for Peace, an initiative focused on strengthening women's participation in peacebuilding, international dialogue, and community leadership.

In recognition of her commitment to these values, she was also honoured with the distinguished title of Global Peace Ambassador.

These responsibilities reflect her ongoing engagement in building international partnerships, promoting women's leadership, and supporting initiatives that advance human rights and peaceful cooperation.

For Nadiya Yashan, participation in the Peace Ambassadors Awards Gala represents an opportunity to strengthen international connections and draw attention to humanitarian challenges, particularly those affecting women and children.

Her involvement in the International Peace Alliance also creates opportunities for greater collaboration between Canadian organizations and international partners working toward shared humanitarian goals.

Film For Peace Awards 2026: Cinema as a Voice for Humanity

A significant part of the evening was dedicated to the Film For Peace Awards 2026, recognizing films that explore important global issues, including armed conflicts, human rights, social justice, cultural understanding, and the pursuit of peace.

The festival recognized 52 films from countries around the world, demonstrating the power of cinema to communicate stories that cross geographical, cultural, and political boundaries.

Among the recognized productions was the Ukrainian documentary “Children in the Fire,” directed by Evgeny Afineevsky.

The film received the Honorary Film Tribute Award — Ukraine, acknowledging its contribution to raising international awareness about the experiences of Ukrainian children affected by war.

“Children in the Fire”: Stories the World Must Hear

The documentary Children in the Fire tells the stories of seven Ukrainian children whose lives were dramatically changed by Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Through deeply personal experiences, the film explores the devastating impact of war on children and their families, including missile attacks, severe injuries, the loss of loved ones, displacement, and the difficult journey toward physical and emotional recovery.

Yet the documentary is not only about suffering.

It is also a story of extraordinary courage, resilience, and hope. Despite unimaginable challenges, these children continue to demonstrate their determination to live, learn, create, and dream of a peaceful future.

Director Evgeny Afineevsky, internationally recognized for his documentary work addressing human rights and major social and political events, brings these stories to audiences around the world.

By combining personal testimonies, documentary footage, and artistic storytelling, the film reminds viewers that behind every headline about war are real people whose lives have been forever changed.

The documentary carries an important message: the suffering of children must never become an accepted consequence of war.

Ukrainian Film Honoured at the International Ceremony

During the Film For Peace Awards ceremony in Toronto, the award for Children in the Fire was accepted on behalf of the filmmakers by Roman Iashan, who represented Ukraine at the event.

Nadiya Yashan, Hanna Konyashyna, and Hanna Kozakova also attended the Gala and were proud to support the recognition of this important Ukrainian documentary.

For the Ukrainian community in Canada, this recognition represents much more than a cinematic achievement. It provides another opportunity to remind the international community of the humanitarian consequences of Russia's war against Ukraine, particularly for children.

Even today, while international conferences, ceremonies, and discussions about peace take place around the world, Ukrainian children continue to live under the threat of missile and drone attacks — 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

According to official Ukrainian government data, more than 20,000 Ukrainian children have been deported or forcibly transferred by Russia. Many have still not returned to their families.

The world must know what is happening. The world must respond. Bringing Ukrainian children home, protecting their rights, and ensuring their safety must remain priorities for the international community.

This is why documentaries such as Children in the Fire are so important. They give a voice to those who are often unheard and remind international audiences of the human cost of war.

Recognizing this film at an international peace festival is an important contribution to keeping the experiences of Ukrainian children visible in the global conversation.

International Solidarity and a Shared Responsibility for Peace

The Peace Ambassadors Awards Gala & Grand Ball 2026 demonstrated the important role that culture, international partnerships, and community leadership can play in promoting dialogue and cooperation.

Through film, music, artistic expression, and humanitarian recognition, the event brought together people from different backgrounds who share a commitment to peace and human dignity.

The recognition of Children in the Fire served as a powerful reminder that peace cannot be separated from the protection of human rights, especially the rights of children.

Behind every statistic are real lives — children separated from their families, communities affected by violence, and young people whose futures depend on the actions of today's leaders.

The International Peace Alliance, including its Women for Peace initiative, continues to provide opportunities for international collaboration, encouraging women and community leaders to contribute to humanitarian efforts, intercultural understanding, and peacebuilding.

The participants also expressed appreciation for Canada's continued support of Ukraine, Ukrainian communities, and humanitarian initiatives.

For Nadiya Yashan and Business Woman PRO Canada, participation in international events such as the Peace Ambassadors Awards Gala reinforces the importance of connecting women's leadership, civic engagement, and global cooperation.

Peace begins with humanity, responsibility, and the willingness to protect those who need it most.

Every child deserves to live in peace.
