Irena Dounets

We are honoured to welcome Irena Dounets, Chief Executive Officer of St. Demetrius Development Corporation in Toronto, as a speaker in the “Community Leadership” panel at Business Woman Forum 2026 – Toronto.

Ms. Dounets leads one of the most respected Ukrainian Canadian care organizations, which includes the Ukrainian Canadian Care Centre (long-term care), St. Demetrius Apartments (independent living), and a growing range of supportive care and community outreach programs.

With over 20 years of progressive leadership experience in long-term care, recreation therapy, and elder services, Irena brings deep expertise in quality care, strategic planning, and building collaborative, compassionate care environments. Her approach focuses on empowering teams, fostering strong resident-centred cultures, and delivering high standards of clinical excellence and dignity for older adults.

Under her leadership, St. Demetrius has expanded its continuum of care, advanced dementia care transformation, and launched new community programs that support aging with purpose, connection, and belonging.
